Hi, I'm Qusai Akoud.

I'm originally from Khartoum, Sudan and now based in Boston, Massachusetts.

I first started taking photos — portraits of friends and family — between 2007 and 2008. To push myself, I started taking photos of strangers. Their stories were interesting and unpredictable. Those photos became the collection Humans of Khartoum, which was inspired by another well-known photography project, Humans of New York. My goal was to try to understand the people and the culture, and capture it so that others would be interested in their stories too. The project got some attention and was featured on CNN.

After some professional studio training, I worked as a commercial photographer, then as a wedding photographer. Now, I'm enjoying experimenting with film photography.

You can find more of my work on 500px, and I also share more photos on instagram.

Email me if you have an interesting project or if you just want to say hello.
